According to The Independent, before the Euro 2024 final, Dan Thomas, a die-hard fan from Swindon, UK, decided to show his loyalty in a unique way—he chose to get the phrase “England Euro 2024 Champions” tattooed on his left leg, along with a symbol of glory, the Henri Delaunay Trophy.
Despite England’s 1-2 loss to Spain in the final, failing to bring the trophy home, Dan is not regretful. On the contrary, this setback has deepened his confidence in England’s football future. He is convinced that the Euro in four years will be a crucial moment for England to prove their strength. Dan has even started planning to change the “4” in his tattoo to “8,” demonstrating his belief that England can win the title.
Since winning the World Cup in 1966, England has not touched the pinnacle of major tournaments. However, Dan remains optimistic. He describes England’s performance in this Euro as “bittersweet” and highly praises the team’s ability to reach the final. The 29-year-old data analyst said, “We were so close to victory, and I have no regrets about my tattoo choice. The only regret might be that I’ll have to change the ‘4’ to ‘8.’ I have no remorse; I still love it.”
To achieve this striking tattoo design, Dan spent two and a half hours at a tattoo shop in Swindon. He even live-streamed the entire process, attracting over 42,000 viewers online. Tattoo artist Tina Chiwara recalled, “I couldn’t believe he would really do this, but after multiple confirmations, he was indeed steadfast in his belief. His trust and optimism in the team are truly admirable.”
Dan’s friend and tattoo shop owner Jack Wilkinson revealed that he initially thought Dan’s tattoo plan was just a joke. “I never thought he would actually get it done until I saw the needle piercing his skin. Dan is a unique character, a bit unconventional, but his optimistic spirit is his hallmark.”
