Robert Lewandowski has scored many brilliant goals throughout his career, earning the admiration of football fans worldwide. However, when facing his former club Bayern Munich, the Polish striker’s performance has been rather mediocre.
According to statistics, Lewandowski has faced Bayern 16 times during his stints at Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona. In these 16 matches, he failed to score in 13 of them. In the other three games, Lewandowski scored a total of 5 goals. Additionally, he has yet to provide an assist in any of his matches against Bayern.
Notably, during his time at Dortmund, Lewandowski helped the team win all five of their initial encounters with Bayern. In April 2012, Lewandowski scored a goal that secured a narrow victory for Dortmund over Bayern, contributing to the team’s Bundesliga title that season.
A month later, Lewandowski experienced one of the most glorious moments of his career. In the 2011/12 DFB-Pokal final, he scored a hat-trick, leading Dortmund to a 5-2 victory over Bayern and achieving the double.
However, the good times did not last long. In the following season, Dortmund was no longer able to withstand Bayern’s dominance. Bayern not only won the Bundesliga title by a massive 25-point margin but also defeated Dortmund three times in the German Super Cup, the DFB-Pokal quarterfinals, and the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League final.
After scoring in the German Super Cup, Lewandowski failed to find the back of the net in the next nine matches against Bayern. Since joining Barcelona, Lewandowski has faced Bayern twice in the Champions League, failing to score and witnessing his team suffer two consecutive losses.
Barcelona is set to face Bayern in another Champions League match. Will Lewandowski be able to score against his old club this time?
Lewandowski’s record against Bayern is as follows:
Matches played: 16
Record: 7 wins, 2 draws, 7 losses
Goals: 5
Assists: 0
