On November 17, according to the Daily Mail, Manchester City is willing to offer Erling Haaland a weekly salary of £500,000, the highest in the Premier League. However, Haaland’s side is unwilling to remove or increase the buyout clause, leading to difficult renewal negotiations.
Haaland’s contract with Manchester City expires on June 30, 2027. Despite having three years left on his contract, Manchester City is planning ahead and hopes to extend his stay until the summer of 2029. They are willing to increase his weekly salary to £500,000, which would be the highest in the Premier League (currently, Kevin De Bruyne earns the highest at £400,000 per week).
However, Haaland’s side wants to retain the buyout clause in the new contract, which is currently set at £150 million. Manchester City wishes to either remove the buyout clause or increase its value, for example, to £200 million. Both Haaland’s father and his agent are unwilling to compromise, which is a significant reason for the stalled renewal talks.
There have been rumors that Real Madrid and Barcelona are interested in Haaland. In this context, Haaland’s team also wants more control over transfer matters.
