Son Heung-min and Tottenham Hotspur’s story can be described as a beautiful fairy tale in the world of football. According to the latest news from The Daily Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur has decided to extend Son Heung-min’s contract for another year by activating the extension clause in his contract, ensuring that this South Korean star will play for the team for over a decade.
Son Heung-min last renewed his contract with Tottenham in 2021, and this current contract is set to expire in seven months. However, Tottenham holds the right to extend the contract for an additional year, and they have now decided to exercise this right, meaning Son Heung-min will continue to stay at Tottenham until June 2026.
In 2015, Son Heung-min joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen for a transfer fee of £22 million, a move that is considered one of the most successful in the club’s history. Son Heung-min’s arrival not only strengthened the team but also made him an indispensable part of Tottenham, helping the club secure a place in the Champions League qualification zone.
After the new manager, Ange Postecoglou, took over, Son Heung-min was entrusted with the role of captain. As a veteran player, the 32-year-old Son Heung-min continues to maintain excellent form, contributing at least 10 goals per Premier League season, except for his first season with Tottenham.
To date, Son Heung-min has scored 123 goals in the Premier League, placing him third on the active players’ goal-scoring list, behind Mohamed Salah (164 goals) and Jamie Vardy (140 goals). Regarding the contract extension, Son Heung-min remains calm, focusing more on helping the team achieve its first title since 2008. Over the past nearly ten years, Son Heung-min and Tottenham have experienced the glory of reaching the Champions League final and the Carabao Cup final, but unfortunately, they have yet to win any trophy.
Facing the future, Son Heung-min is full of anticipation: “I am passionate about this season and sincerely hope to bring a trophy to the team and the fans. No one can predict what the future holds, but I can assure you that I will do my utmost for Tottenham. This is my greatest wish, and I will keep working hard until the last moment of my contract.”
Currently, Tottenham ranks seventh in the Premier League, just two points away from fourth place. In the Europa League, Postecoglou’s team is performing well, securing three consecutive wins and firmly holding the second position in their group. For both Tottenham and Son Heung-min, the future is filled with endless possibilities.
