On June 10, the ATP CH125 Nottingham Challenge kicked off its first round, and Chinese player Shang Juncheng defeated Chilean opponent Barrios 6-0, 4-6, 6-3, securing a victorious start to his grass-court season.
In yesterday’s match, Shang quickly found his rhythm. He dominated the first set, taking just 23 minutes to win all six games, giving his opponent a “bagel.” In the second set, Shang momentarily lost focus. After being broken, he failed to capitalize on three consecutive break points, eventually losing 4-6. In the decisive third set, Shang raised his level again, securing two early breaks for a 4-0 lead, which sealed the victory. He ultimately triumphed 6-0, 4-6, 6-3, marking the first win for a Chinese player in this year’s grass season.
Shang will face either local competitor Horsinksi or qualifier Bolt in the second round. Today, Bu Yunchao and Huang Zelin are also set to compete in the tournament.
