Recently, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe gave an interview to British media outlet The Telegraph, during which he stated that he has no intention of taking over as the head coach of the England national team.
The Football Association had previously announced that England’s head coach Gareth Southgate had been relieved of his duties. Following this news, Newcastle’s manager Eddie Howe emerged as one of the favorites for the new England head coach position. However, in his recent interview, Eddie Howe expressed that he is currently focused solely on managing Newcastle United.
Eddie Howe said, “I am very, very proud to be the head coach of Newcastle United, and my work is all about Newcastle, not the England team. As long as I feel happy here, as long as I can sense the support, and as long as I can work freely in the way I want, I won’t think about anything outside of Newcastle.”
“I completely love this club, I love the fans, and I love this stage of my career; there is no better place for me than here.”
“The talk about England is coming from other people, not me. My focus is only on Newcastle. It’s not right to discuss other teams when you are the Newcastle manager. I don’t think I need to answer the question (about coaching England) again; my stance is clear.”
When asked whether he would rather coach England or win a title with Newcastle, Eddie Howe responded, “I won’t (coach England); I would choose to win a title with Newcastle because I am the head coach of Newcastle United, and all my passion is dedicated to Newcastle.”
“I love my country, I want my country to do well, and I was disappointed that Southgate and the boys didn’t win the Euros. But I don’t have a strong desire to take on this role right now; perhaps at another stage in my career, I might.”
“I’ve said before that if it happens at some point in the future, maybe it’s meant to be. If not, I’m also very, very content with my current role; I enjoy the day-to-day management here.”
