On July 26, Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig discussed his decision to reject Arsenal. He stated that staying with Leipzig was a well-considered choice and he believes he can continue to progress there.
Due to his impressive performances in the Bundesliga last season and during the Euros, Sesko attracted interest from top clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea, with Arsenal being seen as a likely destination. However, instead of rushing to join a big club, Sesko chose to renew his contract with RB Leipzig.
Regarding his decision to renew, Sesko said, “I gave it careful thought and believe I made the right choice. I want to learn new things and gain more experience without hastily deciding my future. Leipzig is an excellent club that provides what I need next. The club has a clear plan for continuous growth, improvement, and achieving higher goals. I think my choice is correct.”
Sesko also spoke about the influence of RB Leipzig’s head coach Marco Rose: “We had a conversation where he expressed his desire for me to stay but said he would respect my wishes. If I felt leaving would be better for my development, I should join another club; otherwise, stay at Leipzig. Rose is an excellent coach who has worked with many great players. I’m glad I ultimately decided to stay.”
He then discussed his outstanding performance last season: “When you change your mindset, everything falls into place. I worked hard throughout the season, loving football, training, and matches every day. My achievements came naturally. Considering this was my first season at RB Leipzig, I think it was a great start. I want to achieve more, and the club has high ambitions. We hope to retain our best players and pursue even greater goals.”
