Recently, Kawasaki’s foreign center-forward, Gomis, appeared on former Japanese international footballer Daigo Matsui’s personal media channel to share his views on the development of Japanese football.
When asked about the elements needed for the development of Japanese football during Daigo Matsui’s program, Gomis, who has extensive experience playing for the French national team, said, “To grow, Japanese football still needs some time, and I believe that time brings growth. Since the professionalization of the J-League in 1993, Japanese football has been growing steadily, which is why we are where we are today. There are many players now playing in Europe, but this has come from the gradual accumulation since the birth of the Japanese professional league.”
Furthermore, Gomis envisioned the future of Japanese football, saying, “The key to a player’s growth lies in strong ambition. The situation of Kawasaki’s players differs from those playing in Europe, but if they maintain the aspiration to become top players, I think it won’t be long before there are Japanese players playing for Real Madrid. I believe that Kawasaki’s players have great potential, and I think they perform very well in training with a very positive attitude. Within the next five or ten years, Japan could possibly rank among the top five globally, and I believe that eventually, a Japanese player will win the Ballon d’Or.”
The 38-year-old Gomis has suffered two injuries since joining Kawasaki Frontale in August 23, requiring him to return to France for treatment at one point. In the first half of this season, Gomis only played in nine league matches for Kawasaki Frontale, scoring three goals, a clear drop in efficiency compared to his time in Europe.
