Ahead of the quarter-final clash between England and Switzerland at the Euros, footballing great Alan Shearer has offered his insight, suggesting that the match could go all the way to extra time or a penalty shootout, with England eventually coming out on top.
Gareth Southgate’s England side advanced to this stage after an overtime victory against Slovakia in the round of 16. Switzerland, on the other hand, defeated Hungary, drew Germany, and knocked out defending champions Italy in their last-16 encounter.
Shearer believes the fixture between England and Switzerland is difficult to call, “It’s really hard to predict. England have been inconsistent. Switzerland are an impressive team with pace up front. It’ll be a tough test for England.”
Commenting on the possible outcome, Shearer anticipates a deciding factor in extra minutes or from the spot, “Of course, England will progress in the end.”
Shearer also ventured predictions for the other quarter-finals, “Spain should eliminate Germany, Portugal might struggle against France, and the Netherlands will advance past Turkey.”
Notably, Shearer will be in attendance for the England-Switzerland clash. The winner of this encounter will face off against the victor of the Netherlands-Turkey match in the semi-finals.
