On July 6th, in the quarterfinals of the European Championship, Germany lost to Spain 1-2 after extra time, ending their run in the round of eight. German international Joshua Kimmich gave his thoughts on the game in the post-match interview, stating that it was unjust.
Kimmich said in the interview, “The game was very unfair. We played better in the second half and extra time. After we equalized, Spain only seemed interested in taking the match to penalties. We missed two great chances, and there was a handball in their box that went unnoticed and should have been a penalty.”
Kimmich reflected on Germany’s progress compared to previous tournaments: “In the World Cup, we didn’t show team spirit, but this time it was very different. We demonstrated great team spirit, so that’s why I’m more disappointed after elimination. Although Spain is a good team, we were undoubtedly the better side. I hope that through our efforts, we made the German fans proud and proud.”
