According to local Genoa media outlet Il Secolo XIX, Mario Balotelli is set to make a formal return to Italian football by joining Serie A club Genoa. Balotelli has been offered a short-term contract with an annual salary of €400,000, which will expire in June 2025.
The report indicates that Balotelli has already had a conversation with Genoa’s head coach, Alberto Gilardino, and the transfer is expected to be officially announced soon. Balotelli, who ended his previous contract with Adana Demirspor in Turkey, has not signed with any club this season. He made 16 appearances and scored 7 goals in the Turkish Super Lig last season but missed a significant portion of the matches due to a knee injury.
Genoa has had a difficult start to the season and currently finds itself in the relegation zone, facing severe issues in their attacking lineup. Both Retegui and Albert Gudmundsson have transferred away, Ruslan Malinovskyi is out for the season due to injury, and Vitiña is also sidelined. Balotelli’s arrival will help alleviate Genoa’s attacking woes.
