On November 11, according to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, AC Milan defender Theo Hernández’s future with the team has become uncertain, and German giants Bayern Munich are closely monitoring the French international’s situation.
Theo, once considered a leader of Milan, has been performing poorly since the start of the season. Last month, he was fined by the club for taking and missing a penalty without permission, which led to criticism from both the media and fans. In the recent away match against Cagliari, which ended in a 3-3 draw, Theo was one of the worst performers among the starting eleven. The media criticized him for losing his defensive positioning and for showing a lack of enthusiasm and passion on the field. Corriere della Sera questioned where the real Theo Hernández had gone, noting that he only seems to perform well in high-profile matches like those against Real Madrid.
Milan’s head coach Rúben Amorim also specifically mentioned Theo after the game against Cagliari: “Theo cannot afford to lose his composure so easily; he must improve his defensive performance. We are working hard to help him improve.”
According to Corriere della Sera, Theo’s focus has been affected by off-field issues, particularly the ongoing contract negotiations with Milan. Since the talks began, Theo’s form has taken a significant downturn. Theo’s current contract with Milan runs until 2026, but the two sides are far from reaching an agreement on salary. Theo is willing to renew his contract but wants to increase his annual salary from the current €4.5 million (after tax) to between €6.5 million and €7 million, matching the top earners in the squad like Rafael Leão. The club has yet to provide a concrete response. Media reports also suggest that Bayern Munich has been closely following Theo’s situation and would act decisively if an opportunity arises.
