According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, Athletic Bilbao is actively pushing forward with the renewal of Nico Williams’ contract to prevent another poaching attempt by Barcelona.
Mundo Deportivo points out that Barcelona is still closely monitoring Nico Williams’ situation. Although they were unable to sign him during the summer transfer window, they are expected to continue their pursuit. In December 2023, Athletic Bilbao and Nico Williams agreed on a new contract that included a buyout clause of 58 million euros.
Athletic Bilbao hopes to significantly increase the buyout fee and extend Nico Williams’ contract duration to prevent poaching attempts by Barcelona and other teams.
