According to BeIN Sports, Iniesta recently acquired a portion of the shares in Danish club Helsingør and will be involved in the club’s management.
Iniesta and his player agency (NSN) announced that they will directly participate in the investment and management of Helsingør from November onwards. “We started working with Helsingør because it is a very promising club with excellent facilities,” Iniesta said in an interview with TV2. “This club has the potential to become an important part of Danish football in the future.”
In September, Helsingør’s CEO Bo Bech Hogh revealed that the club was in talks with Iniesta regarding investment. Since the beginning of this year, the Barcelona legend and his NSN company have been involved in consulting work for Helsingør.
Currently, NSN has become one of the major shareholders of the Danish club, and Iniesta has also made personal investments. Helsingør is implementing a “Spanishization” strategy, not only hiring Spanish coaches but also introducing several Spanish players, which is quite rare in the Danish lower leagues.
Helsingør, currently competing in the Danish Second Division, aims to climb the ranks and become a powerhouse in the Nordic region. In 2020, they were promoted to the First Division but were unfortunately relegated again last year. It is worth noting that in Denmark, the top league is called the “Superliga,” so the Second Division is actually the third tier of the Danish football system.
After retiring, Iniesta participated in a coaching qualification course organized by the UAE Football Association. Unlike many of his former teammates who chose to invest in clubs in Spain or the United States, Iniesta surprisingly selected Denmark as his new field for learning football management and investment.
