Italian Media: Del Piero May Run for President of the Italian Football Federation

November 24, 2024 – According to reports, former Italian and Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero may become a candidate for the presidency of the Italian Football Federation.

Del Piero might participate in the upcoming presidential election of the Italian Football Federation. The vote will take place on February 3, 2025, and it is currently unclear whether the current president, Gabriele Gravina, will seek re-election.

According to the Italian news agency Adnkronos, Del Piero is seen as a “strong” candidate for the position by “clubs and technical bodies,” but it is not yet certain whether he will run next year. Another Italian media outlet, Cronache di Spogliatoio, added that Del Piero might formally confirm his candidacy next Wednesday.

The Italian Football Federation Congress is composed of clubs from Serie A, Serie B, professional leagues, and amateur leagues, along with 52 athletes, 26 coaches, and 9 referees. The congress has a total of 276 representatives, and a candidate must receive more than 50% of the votes (i.e., 50% plus one vote) to be elected as the new president.
