On October 18, Beijing time, Fernando Carro, the CEO of Bayer Leverkusen, stated that he had advised Tapsoba not to join Bayern Munich. He did not want his players to transfer and directly strengthen a league rival.
Carro recalled his conversation with Tapsoba this summer: “Without a doubt, we do not want our players to join title contenders in the league. I told Tapsoba, ‘If you want to leave the team, I understand, but I would prefer you to transfer to a club abroad rather than to another team in the Bundesliga.’”
To this day, Bayern’s pursuit of Leverkusen’s attacking core, Florian Wirtz, has made them the frontrunners for his services. Carro commented, “In football, you can’t promise anything. Of course, we would be very happy if he stayed with Leverkusen and continued to fight alongside the team.”
In the previous season, Leverkusen won their first-ever Bundesliga title. However, this season, as defending champions, Leverkusen have had a mediocre performance, securing only 11 points from 3 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss in the first 6 matches, placing them 5th in the league table.
