On the evening of October 20, Beijing time, Boniface, the forward for Bayer Leverkusen, posted a bloody image on his social media. The picture showed his bloodied hands after a severe car accident, which he quickly deleted. According to reports, on that day, Boniface and his friends were heading to Frankfurt Airport to pick someone up when the driver, due to fatigue, crashed into a truck, causing the vehicle to flip over. Fortunately, Boniface only suffered two injuries to his hand. The vehicle damage amounted to 200,000 euros.

Within the same week, while traveling with the Nigerian national team to Libya for an international friendly match, the entire Nigerian team was detained at an abandoned airport for nearly 16 hours without any food or water. Subsequently, the Nigerian Football Federation decided to withdraw from the match, and the players returned to their clubs.
