According to the official social media of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA): in order to strengthen the national men’s basketball team, implement the scientific training principle of “three focuses and one large-scale,” and enhance athletes’ physical reserves and individual competitive levels during the league off-season, the CBA will organize a training camp from August 5 to September 28, 2024. The first phase will be held from August 5 to August 26 at the Yunnan Haigeng Sports Training Base, and the second phase will take place from August 27 to September 28 at the Beijing No. 27 Factory Training Base.
Vice Chairman Gong Luming of the CBA responded to a series of concerns from the public, as detailed below:
Q: What is the purpose of this training camp for the Chinese men’s national team?
We hope that through this training camp, we can help players adjust their state, improve their competitive level, strengthen team cohesion, and prepare in advance for the second window of the Asian Cup qualifiers in November. At the same time, we also aim to build up young talent reserves for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Q: Why was the decision made to hold this training camp in Haigeng, Yunnan?
The Haigeng base is located in a high-altitude area, which makes it conducive for athletes to better improve and store their physical fitness. In addition, to ensure the health and recovery from injuries of the players, we have assembled a medical team consisting of team doctors, research coaches, and high-level physiotherapists, and we have invited sports medicine experts from the Third Hospital of Peking University for injury consultations.
Q: Could you please introduce your expectations and future goals for the team?
The Chinese men’s national team is currently in a period of transition between generations, and our primary task is to adjust and improve the team’s mindset and competitive form. In the future, we must first do a good job preparing for the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup, while simultaneously looking ahead to the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup, the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, and even further into the future. The Chinese men’s national team has experienced many ups and downs throughout its history, and it has often faced challenges and persevered under pressure. We must move forward with the belief of enduring hardship and hope that these young players understand the responsibility and value they carry, train diligently, and achieve our goals.
