On Wednesday local time, French No. 1 Caroline Garcia, 30, and her Spanish boyfriend Borja Duran shared their engagement news on social media. Fellow tennis players like Cornet, Paire, and Saville offered their congratulations in the comments section.
Garcia had revealed in an interview earlier this year in Rome that their relationship blossomed last year during a challenging period for her: “I was going through a tough time, and he decided to come with me more often to tournaments. He gradually saw more of what goes on behind the scenes in tennis and got a better understanding of the life we, and other tennis players, lead.”
The current world No. 22 reached the second round at Roland Garros before falling to Kenin, and a shoulder injury during the clay season hindered her performance in Paris. In 2022, Garcia experienced a career renaissance, capturing the WTA Finals singles title and reaching a high of No. 4 in the rankings. However, she has not achieved notable success in over a year. Up next, Garcia will compete in the grass court season, including Wimbledon.
