On July 11th, Beijing time, World No.1 Sinner announced his withdrawal from the upcoming ATP250 Bastad clay court tournament next week. The Italian revealed he was unwell after losing in five sets to Medvedev in the Wimbledon quarterfinals.
Sinner
On his personal social media, Sinner wrote: “Regrettably, due to physical fatigue, I have to withdraw from next week’s Bastad tournament. It was a tough decision as I wanted to compete, but following advice from my team and doctors, the best course of action for me right now is to take some rest and allow my body to recover. I hope to return to Bastad in the future, as I’ve heard it’s a fantastic event.”
Despite Sinner’s withdrawal, the Bastad tournament still boasts a strong lineup. With the Paris Olympics approaching, many players have chosen to participate in this clay court event as preparation for their Olympic campaigns.
Nadal
In addition to top-10 players Rublev and Ruud, Spanish tennis icon Nadal will be competing with a wildcard entry in both singles and doubles. Last Wednesday, the tournament officials announced that Nadal will partner with Ruud in the men’s doubles, marking the first time the two will play together on tour.
Nadal has opted out of the grass-court season this year to fully focus on preparing for the Olympics, where he will compete in both singles and doubles, partnering with compatriot Alcaraz for the Olympic stage.
The 2024 ATP250 Bastad tournament will take place from July 15th to 21st.
