Chinese player Bai Zhexuan lost in the first round of the Wimbledon women’s singles 4-6, 0-6 to local competitor Dart. In her post-match interview, she expressed that her performance was average and there is significant room for growth. After Wimbledon, she will return home for a short break before competing in hard court events in Europe and the United States.

After losing seven consecutive games after being down 4-5 in the first set, Bai reflected on the match, saying, “I felt like I played just okay. Losing that service game at 4-5 was too quick, it shouldn’t have happened. In the second set, I couldn’t find the right rhythm, I can’t quite explain why. To be honest, my opponent played well, and she had the home crowd advantage. Until I was down 0-3 in the second set, I didn’t get any breakpoints in her service games, while I faced more pressure in mine.”
When the match was suspended due to rain with Bai trailing 0-3 in the second set, she mentioned, “During the break, I was indeed thinking about how to approach the game, but it wasn’t entirely up to me. I couldn’t execute the shots I wanted. I only had two opportunities in the whole match, and when they came, I didn’t seize them.”
Assessing her grass court season, Bai acknowledged the need for constant improvement: “I feel like there are many areas where I’m lacking, and I need to strengthen all aspects, especially my serve and return game. On grass, if you can play more comfortably in your service games, you can create chances in your opponent’s service games. If your service games are very challenging, the pressure increases.”
Despite not securing a main draw victory at Wimbledon for a second consecutive year, Bai doesn’t dwell on missed opportunities: “Opportunities always come and go, you never know when they’ll appear at which tournament, but you’ll always have your moments.”
