According to Dutch media outlet NOS, the Netherlands national team coach has appointed Verbruggen as the first-choice goalkeeper, while also expressing faith in De Jong’s recovery before the Euros.
Frenkie de Jong is still absent from the national team camp due to an ankle injury, raising concerns about his participation in the tournament. Coach Koeman commented, “Everything is going according to plan. He won’t play in the first match and will miss some training sessions.”
Furthermore, Koeman has settled on 21-year-old Brighton goalkeeper Verbruggen as the number one choice. Verbruggen, who made his debut for the national team last March, has played in five of the last six international matches. Despite being the youngest of the three goalkeepers, Koeman has great trust in him: “He plays in the Premier League, has experience in big matches, and international experience. Age doesn’t matter – he has shown he can handle high-level games, and I have full confidence in him.”
