Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen expressed his surprise at England’s underwhelming performance in the group stage, with the team fortunate to secure a draw against Denmark.
In the second round of Group C matches at the Euros, England fell short of expectations, and Southgate’s side faced increased scrutiny after a draw that left both teams with a point. Eriksen, who plays for Manchester United, believes Denmark could have claimed victory.
Eriksen said, “England made more mistakes in their build-up play than I anticipated. We had chances to win the game, and we were even a bit disappointed with the draw. Our tactics were clear, pushing from the back and creating opportunities upfront, hurting them on the counter-attack while also dominating possession. Overall, we played exceptionally well, had a great match, and showed our belief and team spirit. But it’s not over yet; everything depends on our next match against Serbia.”
Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel added, “We were disciplined and played with courage. For most of the game, we nullified their threats. You know, Harry Kane is like a magnet, always looking for space and ready to punish any mistake. When you look back at our recent encounters with England, they’ve been evenly matched. The deciding factors are small margins, and that was the case here too.”
