At 3 a.m. on June 24th, the final round of the European Championship group stage kicks off with Switzerland taking on the hosts, Germany. Ahead of the match, Swiss coach Murat Yakin addressed the media, stating that there will be no rotation of players and he is looking forward to competing against Nagelsmann.
After two group matches, Switzerland stands at 1 win and 1 draw, accumulating 4 points and currently second in Group A. With a significant goal difference advantage over Scotland and Hungary, the team has a strong chance of securing one of the top two spots. Yakin emphasized, “None of our players are at risk of suspension due to yellow cards, so I won’t rest them. Our aim is to deliver an impressive performance that makes Swiss fans proud.”
“The team is in good shape, and I’m looking forward to matching wits with Nagelsmann and showing Germany what tactics we have in store for this match,” he added.
Notably, the match will take place at Frankfurt’s Deutsche Bank Park, which has been plagued by poor pitch conditions. Germany’s coach Nagelsmann previously expressed concerns about the state of the pitch, particularly its potential impact on player health, potentially leading to ACL injuries.
Yakin, however, commented, “We’ve grown accustomed to the challenging field conditions at our base camp in Stuttgart. Maybe you’ve noticed that we trained on a very poor pitch for a week; perhaps that gives us a slight advantage.”
