The Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo has reported on the progress of Barcelona’s negotiations with Nike for a contract renewal. According to sources, although some details still need to be finalized, Barça and Nike are nearing an agreement.
According to the terms of the deal, Nike would pay Barcelona a signing fee of €150 million, along with a sponsorship fee of €90 million per season, plus additional bonuses. The club has removed penalty clauses from the renewal, which previously could have led to reduced fees if certain objectives, such as reaching the Champions League quarterfinals, were not met. As a result, Barça will receive the full fixed sponsorship amount each season without conditions. If all bonus clauses are met, this would become the most lucrative kit sponsorship deal in history.
One of the main points of disagreement between the two parties was the duration of the extension. Barça sought a 10-year renewal until 2034, while Nike aimed for a 15-year extension until 2039. It is suggested that they might compromise on a 12-year deal, extending the partnership until 2036.
Despite some remaining specifics to be ironed out, Nike’s new kits for Barcelona’s upcoming season are expected to go on sale in two to three weeks. Nike had already produced the jerseys but had to redo them due to mistakenly printing the old logo of the club’s shirt sponsor, Spotify.
