At 3 a.m. on June 24th, in the third round of Group A of the Euro Cup, Scotland lost 0-1 to Hungary. With this result, Scotland was eliminated with one draw and two losses.
In an interview with the Daily Mail after the match, a disappointed Scottish fan said, “I spent nearly £10,000 to come to Germany to watch the game, and what do we get? Just one shot on target, then we’re out! We had fun, the Hungarian fans were great. It’s just disappointing, that’s all. Many people are angry, but I’m not. I just wish Scotland had played better. Before today, we had five players missing, and then John McGinn and Andy Robertson had to go off injured.”
When asked if he thought Manager Clarke made mistakes, the fan replied, “No, no, no, I have full confidence in Clarke. He got us to two Euros, when was the last time we were at the Euros? 1996? We made it to the World Cup in 1998.”
“Whatever Clarke says, I’m behind him. We didn’t create many chances in the match, but I don’t think that’s the issue. You forget our injury list. We’re not England or Italy…”
