In January 2022, Greenwood was involved in a sexual assault scandal, but following the withdrawal of the complaint, he was able to return to football. To distance him from negative publicity, Manchester United loaned him to La Liga side Getafe last summer. Now that his loan spell has ended, both Manchester United and Greenwood face crucial decisions.
The former England star, Teddy Sheringham, spoke about Greenwood’s future in an interview with the Daily Express.
“Yes, I definitely think so (selling him would be the best option for both). Given Greenwood’s situation, it would be difficult for him to return to Manchester United without causing a media stir.”
“So, at this point in English football, it’s important for him to keep a low profile. He could work on his game and find himself in another league. We’ll have to see if he can make it at Juventus, as there are reports they’ve agreed on some terms.”
“As for a return to the England national team, that’s a big question mark. We’ll just have to wait and see.”
