Recently, former England football legend Wayne Rooney expressed on the show Overlap that Manchester United youngster Meunier could very well take Arnold’s place in the England starting lineup. However, Meunier responded modestly to the suggestion.
Rooney said, “I’ve watched a few of Arnold’s games, and I don’t think he’s been exceptional. He has great passing and can initiate attacks from midfield, but I believe he should compete with Kyle Walker for the right-back spot. His position in midfield should be opened up. If it were my choice, I’d go 100% for Meunier as a starter in the middle.”
“It’s not that Arnold can’t play in midfield; he’s only recently started there. And he’s more adept at passing. In his natural position (right-back), I think only Beckham could outdo him.”
Addressing Rooney’s comments, Meunier humbly reacted, “I’m ready to step in whenever needed, whether as a starter or substitute. There are obviously many talented midfielders in the squad, like Bellingham. My focus now is to train hard and be prepared for whenever my chance comes.”
