In the opening match of the Euros, England narrowly defeated Serbia 1-0. Foden had an underwhelming performance, registering zeros in several statistical categories. Ahead of their second match against Denmark, Foden gave an interview.
Rather than dwelling on his first-match struggles, Foden praised Bellingham: “Bellingham is an extraordinary talent, he was outstanding. I think he’s becoming a leader for the team. I believe we have good moments together and some not so much, but we’re constantly growing and improving. We’ll definitely get better. He’s an exciting talent, and I love playing alongside him. But you know, the first game of any major tournament is always challenging.”
Addressing his own form, Foden said, “Winning is the most important thing, and we achieved that. Sometimes it’s difficult because in these games, we need to do more defending, which shows another side of us. If we want to win, we have to do that.”
Foden’s performances at club level and with the national team have been contrasting. Last season, he had his best campaign, scoring 27 goals and providing 13 assists for his club, whereas in 35 international appearances, he has scored only four goals.
