In the opening match of the Euro Cup group stage, Germany defeated Scotland 5-1, but an unfortunate incident occurred beforehand. German player Philipp Lahm accidentally injured a fan during warm-ups.
According to Bild, during the pre-match warm-up, Lahm’s shot missed the target and flew straight into the stands behind the goal, hitting a spectator named Fratmann in his left hand, causing a fracture. The fan was then taken to the hospital.
Fratmann shared, “I was still singing the German national anthem on the stretcher. I didn’t know whether to be happy or disappointed. I had to give up my dream of watching the opening match because you broke my hand.” The fan later watched Germany’s 5-1 victory over Scotland from the hospital and was discharged at 1 am after treatment.
Philipp Lahm heard about the accident promptly and felt deeply sorry. He sent Fratmann a package containing a German national team jersey and an apology card.
