On June 13, the Italian Football Federation announced the seeded teams for the 2024/25 Serie A Cup. All powerhouse clubs have secured their positions, with defending champions Juventus landing a beneficial draw, while the other half of the bracket could feature “derby” encounters.
Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Roma, Lazio, Napoli, Atalanta, and Bologna, as seeded teams, will enter the competition from the round of 16. As the reigning champs, Juventus finds itself in the top half as the number one seed. If all goes well, they will face Fiorentina in the quarterfinals and await the winner of Bologna versus Atalanta in the semis.
The bottom half of the draw promises more intense battles, with potential quarterfinal clashes being AC Milan against Roma and Lazio versus Inter Milan. This sets the stage for a Milan derby or a Rome derby in the bottom half’s semifinals. Whichever team emerges from this section will have had a challenging journey.
In terms of historical records, Juventus has lifted the Italian Cup the most times, 15 in total. Inter Milan and Roma are tied for second place with nine victories each. Interestingly, AC Milan, renowned both domestically and internationally with seven UEFA Champions League titles, has only won the Italian Cup five times, with their last triumph dating back to 2003.
