In the first round of Group A, Germany secured a resounding 5-1 victory over Scotland with goals from Werzer, Musiala, Havertz, Fükrug, and Emre詹, while Rudiger scored an own goal.
Despite Germany’s infamous World Cup victories, such as 8-0 against Saudi Arabia and 7-1 against Brazil, this 5-1 triumph marks their biggest-ever win in the European Championship. It also sets the record for the largest score difference in a Euro opener.
For Scotland, this is the first time since a friendly against the United States in May 2012 (which also ended 1-5) that they have conceded five goals in a match. It is also their worst defeat in a major international tournament since the 1954 World Cup, when they lost 0-7 to Uruguay.
