The Sun reports that two Premier League legends, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, have made their predictions for this season’s Premier League champion, positions 2-6, relegated teams, top scorer, and best new signing. Neville’s prediction that Manchester United will finish above Liverpool has sparked heated discussions.
Neville predicts that Arsenal will win the title, with both Manchester clubs and Chelsea making it into the top four. He sees Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur finishing fifth and sixth, with Newcastle United disrupting the competition for European spots. Erling Haaland is predicted to be the top scorer, Dominic Solanke the best new signing, and he believes that Ten Hag, Sloot, and Maressca are the coaches to watch. Neville thinks all three promoted teams will be relegated.
In explaining his predictions, Neville said, “Arsenal is getting better and closer to winning the title. I think they will do it at some point, possibly this year. Why do I predict United will finish above Liverpool? We don’t know how Ten Hag and Sloot will perform, but I believe Manchester United’s midfield can better support the team, they have greater depth and excellent players. I doubt whether Liverpool’s midfield can maintain stability throughout the season. If they can play at the incredible level of Klopp’s era, I’ll take my hat off to them and admit I was wrong. But my view is that Klopp’s departure will have an impact.”
Carragher’s predictions differ. He believes Manchester City will win the title, with Arsenal, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur making the top four. Manchester United and Aston Villa would finish fifth and sixth, with West Ham United disrupting the competition for European spots. Haaland will win the Golden Boot, while Southampton, Leicester City, and Nottingham Forest will be relegated. Pedro Neto from Chelsea will be the best new signing.
Carragher believes that despite the significant impact of Klopp’s departure on Liverpool, Sloot cannot be underestimated. He views Sloot as the most interesting coach to watch in the new Premier League season, believing that Sloot is fully capable of leading Liverpool into the top four and securing a Champions League spot.
