On August 17th, La Gazzetta dello Sport interviewed Capeleo to look ahead to the upcoming new season of Serie A. In Capeleo’s view, defending champions Inter Milan will still be the biggest favorites to win the title.
Capeleo first talked about the defending champions Inter: “Inter have no weaknesses on paper, perhaps they lack a defensive cornerstone who can replace Archebi, he has excellent tactical wisdom and can command the team’s defense very well. Inter is the best-equipped team in Serie A, and also has outstanding attacking players such as Lautaro, Barella, and Calhanoglu.”
Capeleo then talked about the teams that could threaten the Nerazzurri: “AC Milan will be the most important opponent for Inter’s title defense, but their problem lies in the weakness of midfield defense. When AC Milan makes mistakes in midfield defense, they often concede goals, which was once again exposed in the Berlusconi Cup match against Monza. Juventus has let go of some important players and excluded Chiesa from the team. Juventus appointed Motta as the new head coach, we need to see if he can bring changes to the team, whether the new signings are worthy of the black and white stripes. If Juventus only sets its sights on qualifying for the Champions League, it is not enough, the team must fight for the championship.”
Capeleo also talked about Atalanta, last season’s Europa League champions: “Unfortunately, two key players, Scalvini and Scamacca, will be out long-term due to injuries, while Kuipers may leave. But Atalanta still possesses a strong fighting spirit, as shown in the Super Cup against Real Madrid. If Kuipers joins Juventus, it will certainly enhance the combat effectiveness of the Bianconeri.”
