The transfer saga of Jonathan Tah ultimately concluded with Tah remaining at Bayer Leverkusen. Former Bayern player Dietmar Hamann criticized Bayern’s transfer operations in an interview.
According to German media reports, Bayer Leverkusen wanted a transfer fee of 30 million euros, but Bayern was not willing to pay this amount. Hamann expressed great dissatisfaction with Bayern’s approach, “You say to the player under the club’s name that I want to sign you and we have reached an agreement, and then you let the other party down.”
Hamann stated that since Leverkusen asked for 30 million euros, Bayern should have paid this sum. However, there are reports suggesting that Bayern considered Tah’s contract expiring next year and therefore refused to pay more than 20 million euros as a transfer fee.
Hamann was unreserved in his criticism of his former club Bayern, “One thing is very certain, Bayern must take responsibility for this failed transfer, and they played a very dishonorable role. Of course, Tah was not affected by the failure of the transfer, and he quickly regained his form, which shows that he is absolutely an excellent player.”
