Leverkusen lost 2-3 to Leipzig. In an interview, Leverkusen’s director Rolfes stated that one loss won’t deter Leverkusen’s ambition and believes that after a brief adjustment, the team will return stronger after the break.
Rolfes noted that when the score was 1-2 in the match against Leipzig, it was a turning point. “After the opponent scored a goal, we actually had better control of the game. The opponent’s goal increased our motivation.” However, Leverkusen’s poor defense allowed Leipzig to turn the game around subsequently.
Leverkusen’s coach Alonso expressed that giving the opponent chances after taking the lead was the key to losing the game, hoping such a scenario wouldn’t recur.
Rolfes believes that one loss won’t shake the team’s ambition. “Losing is part of football. This game didn’t diminish our ambition. This defeat will serve as a lesson for us to reflect on in the coming weeks.”
Alonso also mentioned that Leverkusen would take advantage of the break to reflect. “I believe we will come back. We are currently in a chaotic process, but I believe the next two weeks give us a chance to adjust.” Upon returning from this break, Leverkusen will face multiple fronts, including the start of the Champions League, making these two weeks crucial for the Bundesliga defending champions.
