According to Ole, although Inter Miami CF was eliminated by Monterrey in the quarterfinals of the Leagues Cup and thus lost its direct qualification for the 2025 Club World Cup, there is still hope that the team could participate in the Club World Cup as the host team from the United States.
Currently, 30 teams have been confirmed for the 2025 Club World Cup, with two slots yet to be determined, namely the champion of the 2024 Copa Libertadores and the host team slot. However, the United States has not yet decided which team will represent the country in the tournament. The primary option being considered is the champion of the 2024 MLS season. Based on the current standings in MLS, Inter Miami CF stands a strong chance of qualifying this way.
Even if Inter Miami CF fails to secure the league title, there is still a possibility that the U.S. authorities might award them the host nation’s slot. This is because the host team slot is the only one not tied to performance-based criteria. Furthermore, Ole reports that FIFA would be keen on having Messi-led Inter Miami CF participate in the newly reformed Club World Cup.
