On August 17, during the women’s floor exercise final of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games gymnastics events, American gymnast Chiles used an on-site protest to surpass Romanian female athlete Ana Barbosu by 0.1 points, nearly “robbery”-style, to take her place on the podium.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport announced on August 10 that the US team’s protest exceeded the one-minute limit allowed by the International Gymnastics Federation and was made 1 minute and 4 seconds after the score was posted. Therefore, the Court of Arbitration for Sport stated that the initial ranking should be restored, placing Romanian gymnast Barbosu in third position.
The bronze medal in the women’s floor exercise will be re-awarded to Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu.
