Recently, Romanian club Rapid Bucharest announced that their head coach, Niel Lennon, who had only been in the role for three months, has been dismissed.
The 53-year-old Lennon had a fairly impressive coaching record. After retiring from playing in 2008, he returned to his former club Celtic to begin his coaching career, leading the team for over 300 games across two separate stints and winning five Scottish Premier League titles and four Scottish Cups with Celtic.
This May, Lennon accepted the position as head coach of Rapid Bucharest and brought in twelve new signings at once. However, he was immediately met with harsh realities of the Romanian league. In the six league matches under Lennon’s management, Rapid Bucharest only managed to secure five draws and one loss, accumulating five points and ranking fifth from the bottom of the league table.
