On August 29, 38-year-old Spanish veteran Navas announced via social media that he will be retiring from the Spanish national team. In his farewell letter, Navas stated, “From today onward, I will continue to support our team with the same enthusiasm I had when wearing the jersey, because Spain will continue to make history. We will continue to grow!”
Navas’ Farewell Letter
I have said it many times, and now I say it again: the greatest honor is to serve my country. After playing 56 matches for the national team and winning four championships, as I announced my retirement from Sevilla Club at the end of the year, I will feel a sense of loss when the national team roster is announced tomorrow and my name is not on it.
Every time I heard my name called, the excitement always quickened my heartbeat, because for me, wearing the national team jersey has always been a source of pride.
Dreams and memories remain intact, just like the pride I felt in bringing joy to so many people. But this time, Luis de la Fuente will not call out my name, and a chapter that began 15 years ago is coming to an end, a journey filled with countless joys, bringing us pride and excitement.
This journey could not have happened without Fernando Hierro’s assistance, without Del Bosque’s opportunity, without the trust given by Luis Enrique and Robert Moreno, and of course, without the security and care Luis de la Fuente has always provided me. To these coaches, I express my eternal gratitude.
Thank you to all the staff, assistants, and workers, whose contributions in your respective roles are equally appreciated; thank you to all my teammates, for the feelings and commitments we shared, becoming a team that achieved goals together.
Finally, thank you to all the fans who have always been there for us, always cheering us on. My wish is that success never stops, and we continue on the path of victory.
