On September 3rd, when discussing how the Red Devils can rise again, Manchester United legend Owen Hargreaves stated that to achieve revival, they need to sign superstars at the level of Erling Haaland. Signing a bunch of non-top-tier players won’t be of much help to the team.
Manchester United’s new signing, Xerxes Zirkzee, brought in for 42.5 million euros during the summer window, scored the winning goal in the first round against Fulham, helping Manchester United secure their only victory in the first three rounds. However, Hargreaves expressed that Zirkzee is not the answer Manchester United needs: “I like Zirkzee a lot; he has something about him, but he isn’t a player who scores 40+ goals a season like Haaland. If Manchester United want to win, they need players who can ruthlessly destroy opponents in attack.”
Hargreaves continued: “Both Zirkzee and Hojlund are good players, but they still have a significant gap compared to Haaland. Manchester United needs a sharpshooter who operates like a machine, similar to Ruud van Nistelrooy, who used to help the Red Devils conquer opponents. I believe Manchester United should sign players who can help you win the Premier League or the Champions League; otherwise, keep the money because signing a bunch of non-top-tier players won’t help the team much.”
