On August 25, Chinese swimming star Sun Yang made his comeback after four years, ultimately winning the championship in the 400-meter freestyle event at the National Summer Swimming Championships. After the game, he also shared his arduous journey in an interview.
Sun Yang said in the interview: In these four years, I have experienced going from the peak into the valley, and then climbing out of the valley step by step on my own. I don’t want to elaborate too much on the past because I’ve already climbed out of the darkness.”
“In the future, I hope to serve as a role model for these ‘post-00s’ and ‘post-10s’ kids, hoping they can contribute more strength to Chinese men’s swimming, because one day we will also leave the pool.”
Sun Yang also mentioned that during the more than four years of his suspension, he had been training at his own expense all along: “I haven’t taken a single day off in these four years. For example, this year during the Spring Festival, I only rested for two days, and went back to training in the afternoon on the second day of the New Year.”
