On August 21, according to The Sun, before the Premier League opener between Manchester United and Fulham, fans noticed damaged seats at Old Trafford.
It is reported that just minutes before kickoff of the Premier League opener, a fan found his seat broken and then used a drill to fix it back in place, an action that left Manchester United fans stunned.
Facing this situation, Manchester United fans began to vent on social media: “Drill Stadium”, “This is why we need a new stadium”, “Who brings a drill to a match??”
The response from Manchester United was: “The driller was a club staff member, and it’s not uncommon for a few seats to need repair on match day.”
In recent years, the dilapidated state of Old Trafford has been evident, with peeling paint, food safety issues, and the well-known leaking roof problems all widely recognized.
Worth mentioning, after the new shareholder Sir Ratcliffe took office, Manchester United announced in early August plans to build a new stadium with a capacity of 100,000 people.
The club stated that they plan to complete the construction of the stadium by 2030, and at the same time, Manchester United will downsize Old Trafford to a stadium with a capacity of 30,000 people, to be used for women’s football and youth training matches.
