On August 25th, former Liverpool manager Klopp strongly supported his successor Slot, praising his excellent work.
Klopp mentioned that he communicated with Slot via text messages: “We had one or two exchanges before and then sent a few text messages. I gave him positive feedback from the beginning, and I am a very hardworking coach.”
Klopp spoke about the challenges Slot faces: “This summer, there were major tournaments like the European Championship and Copa America, which made things difficult for the team. Just as the squad was coming together, there was only one week left until the new season. The work he has done for the team and his tactical ideas are evident.”
Reflecting on his feelings when he first heard about Liverpool signing Slot, Klopp said: “When I heard that Liverpool was going to hire Slot as head coach, I was really happy. But I did not participate in the selection process for the new coach; I’m not the type of person who tries to influence the club after leaving. My only concern at the time was whether Liverpool could find a good replacement. But with Liverpool securing Slot early on, I think the club really found a very suitable candidate.”
Klopp also talked about his current state of being out of work: “I still enjoy watching football matches, especially those of Red Bull Salzburg. I watched Liverpool’s games too, and the team performed well. Besides that, I also watched Olympic football.”
