On August 24, in the second round of the 2024/25 Premier League season, Manchester United lost 1-2 to Brighton. During the match, Mason Mount was substituted off at halftime.
In a post-match interview, Manchester United manager Ten Hag revealed: “Mount encountered some issues, clearly something wasn’t right. We are aware of Mount’s injury history, so I decided to substitute him.”
“The severity of Mount’s condition is currently unclear. However, we have sufficient reserve players, so I decided to replace Mount and bring on players who could impact the attack,” Ten Hag added.
Before being substituted, Mount performed well defensively, helping to put pressure on Brighton’s defense. He had 21 touches, with a passing accuracy of 93% (14 successful passes).
However, this former Chelsea player’s contributions to Manchester United have been relatively limited, mainly due to his injury problems. In fact, Mount only made 20 appearances last season, starting 5 times in the Premier League and scoring 1 goal.
According to statistics, Mount has scored only 2 goals over the past two years. Before joining Manchester United, during the 2022/23 season, the English midfielder only played 22 games across all competitions.
Just in the 2023/24 season, Mount missed 147 days due to injury, sitting out 27 Manchester United matches. So far, Mount’s performance has not justified the £60 million transfer fee that Manchester United paid for him; he has only played 23 games, scoring 1 goal and providing 1 assist.
