In the final stages of the match, a conflict erupted between San Lorenzo’s visiting fans in the stands and Brazilian police. The security forces that came to suppress the situation even used toxic gas to disperse the Argentine fans, and the police also fired rubber bullets at the spectators. The toxic gas quickly spread to the playing field, causing both home and away team players to vomit.
Post-match reports indicated that at least one Argentine fan was arrested, and another was injured by a rubber bullet.
