On August 25th, in the second round of Serie A, Milan lost 1-2 to Parma. After the match, Milan’s head coach Fonseca could not hide his disappointment with the team, stating that although the team had made adequate preparations before the game, the players performed very poorly on the field.
Fonseca took responsibility for the defeat first: “The fact that Milan is in difficulty is my responsibility; I will not shirk it. The team lacks in defensive aspects and on-field aggressiveness.”
Fonseca then talked about the problems within Milan: “When the opponent pressures us, it becomes difficult to maintain a compact formation, and we become very passive on the field. There are issues with the team’s attitude, energy, and team defense.”
Fonseca expressed his inability to understand the players’ performance on the field: “Our performance in the pre-season was excellent, but returning to the official season, the performance was unsatisfactory. Perhaps playing against strong teams would be easier and give the players more motivation. This week, we have been preparing actively, and the players also performed well in training. However, on the field, our performance was not good, which is also hard to understand.”
