The 2024 National Summer Swimming Championships will kick off on August 25th in Hefei. According to the event’s media guide, 32-year-old swimming star Sun Yang will participate in the 400m freestyle event with an entry time of 3 minutes and 45 seconds.
It is understood that Sun Yang will represent Zhejiang Province in this edition of the National Summer Swimming Championships, which is a Class B national-level swimming event, second only in prestige and level to the National Swimming Championships.
A total of 59 athletes from Zhejiang are participating in this competition. Born in 1991, Sun Yang is the oldest athlete at this championship. From the event guide, it can be seen that most of the athletes competing against Sun Yang were born after 2000, even as late as 2008 or 2009, while Sun Yang’s entry time of 3:45:00 far surpasses that of his fellow competitors.
On August 24th, Sun Yang also appeared at the Hefei swimming pool for a trial swim training session, preparing for tomorrow’s race.
Notably, at the 2012 London Olympics, Sun Yang set an Olympic record in the 400m freestyle final with a time of 3:40.14, becoming China’s first male Olympic swimming champion in this event, and he still holds the Olympic record in this event to this day.
