In the early hours of July 30, the Chinese team suffered a mishap in the final moments of the Paris Olympics men’s artistic gymnastics team final, ultimately settling for the silver medal. Prior to this, former Olympic gymnastics champion Chen Yibing had posted a premature celebration of the men’s team “victory,” causing some awkwardness.
During the match, the Chinese men’s gymnastics team held a significant lead but later lost their advantage due to Su Weide’s two consecutive falls from the parallel bars, resulting in China only securing the silver medal while Japan took gold.
During the competition, former gymnastics champion Chen Yibing prematurely celebrated the team’s victory on his Weibo account, writing: “Celebrating early the victory of the Chinese men’s gymnastics team in winning the men’s team championship at the Paris Olympics, returning to No.1 after 12 years! I’m proud of my juniors, and there should be more gold medals to come!”
After the end of the match, Chen Yibing faced criticism for his “champagne at half-time” behavior. He later deleted his post and apologized, saying: “I’m sorry, everyone, feel free to criticize me. I spoke too soon without waiting for the final outcome of the competitive sport. I didn’t expect such a turnaround, and I apologize.”
