August 4: Today, Kam Ming Hi, the first gold medalist for the Hong Kong delegation at the Paris Olympics, announced on social media that she is taking a break from professional fencing.
In her social media post, Kam Ming Hi wrote, “I am very grateful to have dedicated almost 20 years of my life to fencing and sincerely thank my family and friends for their encouragement and support along the way.
After completing my third Olympic journey, I have decided to take a break and bid farewell to my career as a full-time fencer. I look forward to new career developments that will allow me to learn and grow, equip myself to contribute to Hong Kong; while also gaining experience to prepare for setting up my own charitable foundation, bringing the joy of sports back to children.
I am deeply thankful to every member of the national fencing team for their unwavering support. We are sure to meet again on the path of fencing. Once a fencer, always a fencer.”
It is reported that Kam Ming Hi is not just a fencer; in 2012, she studied at Stanford University, later obtaining a master’s degree from Renmin University of China, and in 2021, she started pursuing a Doctor of Laws (LLD) program at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is known that Kam Ming Hi returned to Hong Kong two days ago and was warmly welcomed by many media outlets and citizens at the airport.
